NEW TOMORROWLAND WINTER
The world's most popular festival is coming to the magical landscape of the French Alps
Alpe d’Huez – Boom, March 9, 2018 | In 2019, you can experience Tomorrowland in a completely new setting, in the most magical season of the year: winter. The legendary Belgian music festival will be organising a Winter edition in the French Alps. In March 2019, the entire winter sports resort ‘Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski’ will be taken over and transformed into ‘Tomorrowland Winter’, a festival and fantasy wonderland for over 30,000 music lovers from around the world. Just like the (summer) edition in Belgium, they will be pulling out all the stops to offer guests the ultimate festival experience.
Tomorrowland Winter will cover the entire ski area. A variety of stages, including a mainstage specially developed for this edition at the foot of the ski trails, the world's best and hottest DJs, extra attention for a tasty food and drinks served in the most unexpected places at times, and all steeped in the decor, magic and atmosphere that makes Tomorrowland so special. Add to that the unique setting of Alpe d’Huez, at an altitude of 1860 metres in the French Alps, and you have all the ingredients for a festival unlike any other in the world has ever seen.
With the theme of ‘The Hymn of the frozen Lotus’, Tomorrowland Winter promises a sensational line-up, state-of-the-art decor and a truly exceptional (festival) experience.
Alpe d’Huez – ‘Island in the sun’
The ski resort Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski is among the best ski areas in the world, and in 2017, it received the award for ‘Best ski resort in Europe’. Because it is blessed with over 300 days of sunshine a year, it has been dubbed the ‘Île du Soleil’ (Island in the Sun). At the heart of the area is the village of Alpe d’Huez, at an altitude of 1,860m, which will serve as base camp for the festival.
Non-skiers especially will be spoiled for choice at Tomorrowland Winter. The area offers plenty of ‘non-ski’ activities and all of the festival stages will be accessible on foot.
Your festival ticket grants access to the Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine Ski, which will be reserved during the festival exclusively for holders of Tomorrowland Winter tickets, making the experience that much more unique. Guests can choose either a 4-day or 7-day ticket including access to Tomorrowland Winter, accommodation and a lift & ski-pass.
Jean-Yves Noyrey, Mayor of Alpe d’Huez: ‘We are especially proud that Alpe d’Huez will be able to host Tomorrowland Winter in March 2019. From the very first meetings with the team in Belgium, we have done our utmost to help them bring this unique story to our area. After all, no one has ever organised a festival of this size in our setting before. So we instantly realised that it was a unique opportunity. Not only for our village, but for the local community, merchants and all its associations. We are all eagerly looking forward to welcoming 30,000 People of Tomorrow here, exactly one year from now.’
Christophe Monier, general manager of SATA nv (Societé d’Amenagement Touristique de l’Alpe d’Huez et des Grandes Rousses): ‘With a total of 250km trails, 300 days of sun per year, a lift that climbs to an altitude of 3,300m and offers a unique panoramic view of over 1/5 of France, plus recognition as the ‘Best ski resort in Europe 2017’, and ranking in the Top 3 best European resorts since 2015… Just like Tomorrowland, the Alpe d’Huez ski area is also ‘larger-than-life’. We’re ready to offer all festival guests a festival experience combining music and skiing, that will be both unforgettable and safe’.
François Badjily director of Alpe d’Huez Tourisme: ‘There’s a good reason that Tomorrowland chose Alpe d’Huez to organise the first edition of Tomorrowland Winter. From the very first contacts, we were able to convince them of the unique qualities of our ski resort. The range, the quality and diversity of our facilities for skiers and non-skiers alike, sealed the deal. This festival will put Alpe d’Huez on the map worldwide, even more than before.’
Michiel Beers, creator and organiser of Tomorrowland: ‘We truly feel that with all the different actors involved, in Alpe d’Huez we’ve found just the right partner to realise our dream: a winter edition of our festival. Tomorrowland Winter promises to be very special in all aspects. The stages set up throughout the ski area, including at an altitude of 3,300m, the brand-new mainstage, the line-up... And all this in the fairytale setting of the French Alps. This edition of Tomorrowland was created by our own dedicated young team in Antwerp and we will be 100 % in control of its execution. We couldn't imagine a better way to celebrate our 15th anniversary with the People of Tomorrow and we just can't wait to welcome them to this enchanting, winter wonderland.’
