Duvel Collection 2011

25.05.2011

Arne Quinze, Daan and Stefan Glerum design a limited-edition Duvel glass.

PUURS – FOR THE SECOND TIME, DUVEL IS LAUNCHING THE DUVEL COLLECTION, WHERE A SERIES OF INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS PLACE THEIR MOST CREATIVE DESIGNS ON THE DUVEL GLASS. THIS YEAR BELGIAN ARTIST ARNE QUINZE, DUTCH ILLUSTRATOR STEFAN GLERUM AND BELGIAN ARTIST DAAN STUYVEN WERE ABLE TO TAKE THE ICONIC GLASS INTO THEIR HANDS. THE LIMITED COLLECTION IS AVAILABLE FROM 1 JUNE.

Successful first series
In addition to its brewing activities, the Belgian brewery Duvel Moortgat has always had a special affinity for contemporary art, design and architecture. And thus, partnerships have already been set up with SMAK, WIELS and the Venice and Lyon biennales. Following successful collaborations for international trade fairs and events, Michel Moortgat and Arne Quinze went a step further in 2007.  Arne Quinze took charge of the Duvel bottle & glass and this led to a very original and limited series.
Last year and for the first time, Duvel launched the Duvel Collection, which means that limited series of the iconic Duvel glass will be released on a regular basis. The first three glasses, designed by Dutch artist Parra, Belgian graphic artist Denis Meyers and the English-Japanese designer duo Elley Kishimoto have been an overwhelming success. The limited glasses sold out extremely quickly.

Collector’s item
Duvel stands for craftsmanship and passion. Duvel nurtures the same passion for art. After a successful first edition, Duvel Collection is launching a second series. Belgians Daan and Arne Quinze and Dutch illustrator Stefan Glerum provided a creative design this year.

How can you collect?
From the end of May 2011 loyal customers will be rewarded with these free glasses when buying a crate of Duvel in selected supermarkets, drinks and beer outlets*. Furthermore, Duvel Collection glasses can be bought through the website www.duvelcollection.com or via the Duvel Shop (Breendonkdorp 66, 2870 Puurs). The Duvel shop is open every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1.30 p.m and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (except on public holidays) and after a visit to the brewery. The price for a designer glass is €8.

Duvel & the Duvel glass
The Belgian golden blonde high-fermentation specialist beer (8.5 % alc. vol.) takes its own time and matures for 2 months in the bottle at the Duvel Moortgat family brewery. This results in an aromatic, full-flavoured beer with unequalled elegance, which is served in all parts of the world today.
In the 1960s it came to prominence internationally thanks to its unique and innovative characteristics. It was decided that a unique beer such as this deserved a unique glass. This is why the immediately-liked Duvel glass was developed as the very first tulip shaped beer glass.  Thanks to the rounded shape, Duvel’s superb taste and aromas can be really appreciated, while the narrower upper section of the glass helps to ensure that the carbon dioxide and froth are better retained.   The Duvel glass is still an icon more than 40 years later. Each year we celebrate the continuing success of the glass as a functional and aesthetic object by releasing a new design in a limited edition.
